Ivan Koumaev was born in the Far East of Russia, but grew up in Seattle, WA. He left high school, where he was a member of the Dance Appreciation club, in his senior year to pursue a career in dancing.
He participated in so you think you can dance season II ,he was one of the top 20 contestants.
